HIV Almost Triples Chance of Anal Cancer Precursor in Australian Men

HIV_NewsHIV-positive men had almost a tripled chance of progression to grade 3 anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN) compared with HIV-negative men in a 574-person analysis. Lower nadir CD4 count made progression to grade 3 AIN even more likely.

New HIV strategy for Queensland

HIV_NewsThe Queensland Government aims to reduce HIV transmissions in the state by 50% by the end of 2016 through measures set out in the Queensland HIV Strategy 2013-2015.

The Strategy, which was launched in Townsville by Queensland Health Minister Lawrence Springborg, was developed in consultation with Queensland's Ministerial Advisory Committee on HV/AIDS (MAC).

New Australian commentary on US HIV treatment guidelines

blogger_HIVThe latest commentary to help doctors prescribe HIV antiretroviral treatments in Australia is now available on the new Antiretroviral (ARV) Guidelines website, arv.ashm.org.au.

The commentary on the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) 'Guidelines for the use of Antiretroviral Agents in HIV-1-Infected Adults and Adolescents' is updated each year by a sub-committee of the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine (ASHM).

South Australian HIV Services Guide

The document outlines services including the PEP hotline, HIV and STI testing services, care and support services for people with HIV, HIV respite care services, advocacy services and clinical services.

Australia - $25m to stem rise in HIV

blogger_HIVThe Rudd government will this week outline a $25 million strategy to tackle sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, which is on the rise for the first time in five years.

HIV diagnoses in Australia increased 8.2 per cent from 2010 to 2011, the most recent period for which national data is available. Data for NSW released last month showed a 24 per cent increase in diagnoses between 2011 and 2012.
