USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Clear Health Alliance have partnered to provide focused care on the HIV/AIDS population in the Tampa Bay area.
The partnership will work with community providers and organizations, including Hillsborough County Health Department, to care for Medicaid patients with HIV/AIDS, according to a written statement.
Offered by Coral Gables-based Simply Healthcare Plans Inc., Clear Health Alliance is a Medicaid plan with a designated specialty for HIV/AIDS.
USF’s infectious disease faculty attending physicians will be the primary care physicians for patients.
Nearly 135,000 people with HIV/AIDS live in Florida, and 75 percent of that population is reported in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk and six other counties, according to Florida Department of Health statistics.
The Kaiser Family Foundation reported that federal funding for HIV/AIDS totaled nearly $28 billion in 2012.
